Tao-Chi Exercise Form [EBK 009]

Gentle Exercise for Maximum Health Balance To assist you to find the power of Chi within.

A short form of Chi Exercise especially adapted for the
Non-Martial Artist by the Senior Instructor
for the Tao-Chi Association.

The complete form consists of 18 gentle exercises to assist you to generate the power of Chi (Inner Power) within you.

The Orientals have used this type of exercise for thousands of Years and gained a total fitness balance in mind and body.  This set of exercises has been specially adapted for the Westerner; to perform the complete set will take approximately 10-15 minutes a day

It is my privilege to introduce to you this set of Chi exercises.  By performing the exercises on a regular basis, the flow of Chi in and around the body, will increase.

I have taught the exercises to many people over the years and a large proportion of those people had little, or no, prior knowledge of any aspect of Martial Arts.  In fact, to perform and benefit from this set of exercises, it is not necessary to have any Martial Arts knowledge or ability; they work equally well for all.

At this point, it may be prudent to explain what Chi is, or at least to explain Chi, as I perceive it.  In my experience, those individuals that understand Chi the most, are also those that talk about it the least, this may be one of the reasons that Chi has such a mysterious concept about it.

In my own training in various Martial Arts over the last 30 years, I have been privileged to study from many great Masters; some unfortunately, are no longer with us.  It is from these Masters that I have derived my understanding and respect of Chi. To me, Chi is a power or energy that exists in and around all of us that we use naturally throughout our lives.  Having said that, I feel we all have the ability to increase this energy flow with specific exercises and how we think.  If we think and feel optimistically and then apply that concept to our daily lives, we have a better chance of success in any endeavour.  If we increase the flow of Chi within our mind and body by Chi exercises, we can benefit by feeling stronger, fitter and healthier.

There are many people that will tell you that Chi does not exist, for them maybe they are right, there is equally as many people that will tell you that it does.  Have you ever noticed a group of individuals given similar opportunities and yet, only a few succeed to the highest level.  I have personally observed this in Karate Clubs,  a large number of  people, approximately the same size and weight, all training together over long periods, all being given the same opportunities and yet, only a small percentage excel and have that special something that we all sense but can't quite understand.  This is what I call Chi.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you well on your own path to finding the power of Chi within you.

Paul R White Grand Master Tao-Chi
